TODAY, I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE WHITE KNIGHT SYNDROME

Wanting to help others is a good act of generosity. It shows your humanity.

But when you get to a point where you feel compelled to “rescue” people, often at the expense of your own need; to a point where you neglect yourself to help others, that can become a serious problem.

This is known as the savior complex, or the white knight syndrome and it’s a complex that results from a traumatic childhood experience such as neglect and abuse. Saviors fear abandonment.

It can also be a result of going through cycles of toxic relationships where you feel responsible for wanting to rescue your partner.

If you can relate to this, I just want to remind you that the world isn’t falling apart because of you. In fact, most of the time, we have no real control over anything.

Help people as much as you can, but only if you can. It is not your job to save people or take their problems on your shoulder as your own. You already have your own to deal with.

Don’t put peoples needs before you or destroy yourself trying to save others, especially in relationships. You are not responsible for fixing anyone. Take care of yourself.
